Clean Team is now in its seventh year, and our sincere thanks go to all who have volunteered their time to keep our town tidy and plant bulbs. The daffodils opposite the Boar’s Head planted last autumn are now in flower and look stunning.
New committee member. We are pleased to welcome Marc Holmes on to the committee. Marc is currently chairman of Middlewich Round Table and in this capacity has donated 30 children’s hi-visibility tabards to Clean Team. Many thanks to Marc and the Round Table for this donation.
Community Crime Fighters. Janet, Hilary, Chris, Stephen and Diana attended a Community Crime Fighters day in Birmingham run by the Home Office. As a result Clean Team learnt about the National Probation Service and have approached the organisation with ideas for a number of projects to clean up grot spots in Middlewich. The scheme uses minor offenders to do work in the community.
Grassroots. Clean Team has received a grant from Grassroots Cheshire of £4,980. Grassroots is managed by Cheshire Community Action on behalf of the government’s Office of the Third Sector. This welcome boost to our finances is in addition to funds we raise ourselves and will cover costs for the next three years including creating a new web-site, IT equipment, safety jackets, posters for litter bins, litter pickers and public liability insurance.
Education Hilary and Carol have again visited all Middlewich playgroups and nurseries demonstrating to the children how easy it is to put litter in the bins provided. The High School was visited by Clean Team four times in 2008. Students picked the astro turf three times. Congleton Borough Council says that Middlewich High School students are unique in the borough in their involvement with the external environment outside their school and this is greatly appreciated by Congleton Borough.
Date for your diary. The annual planting of Busy Lizzies in St Michael’s churchyard will take place on Tuesday 2nd June at 6.30pm.
