Summer time and the living is easy –but not with Clean Team! We have been as busy as ever. Our annual planting in St Michael’s churchyard was achieved as if by magic by Brownies, Guides and Cubs. Thanks to them all, to Tesco for providing refreshments and to the Mothers Union for serving them. Folk and Boat Festival had glorious weather which attracted thousands of people. Thanks to Maxine and Streetscape who worked together siting bins and to all who litter-picked.
Our new Member of Parliament. Fiona Bruce MP joined us on a litter pick in May. Fiona said “Volunteering with Clean Team not only improves the look of our local community at the same time it’s good exercise and it’s great to be out in the fresh air with such enthusiastic volunteers who care so much about Middlewich and are good fun to be with”.
British Waterways. Wendy Capelle, Waterways Manager North Wales and Borders, came on a pick in July. Wendy said ”Please pass on my thanks to all your members who devote their time and work hard to ensure Middlewich is litter free. It is an invaluable contribution to the community. I too believe that BW and local communities around the canals can work together to make a difference and I look forward to developing our relationship in the future”.
Fundraising. Thanks to Stephen Dent for continuing his quest for more funding for Clean Team. Recently he has gathered in a cheque from Tesco, which is having a Community Day on 12th September (see box above). Stephen’s efforts have also gained £1200 from the Co-operative Community Fund which will be used for Education in local schools encouraging awareness of litter and its prevention.
Annual General Meeting. The AGM will be on Wednesday 20th October at 7pm at the Big Lock public house. This meeting only takes about 45 minutes. All members welcome.
Bulb planting will take place on Sunday 24th October. Meet at Seabank car park by Town Bridge
