Play group children pick up tips from Clean Team
Middlewich Clean Team visited hundreds of youngsters to teach them the merits of keeping their town tidy. MCT members Hilary Jones & Carol Eccles spent four hours attending Playbox play group,Peter Pan play group, Tommy Thumbs pre-school, Cledford School Nursery, Rainbow day nursery and Leaps and Bounds day nursery.

They taught the children the work of the Clean Team before letting them try the litter pickers for themselves. Hilary said, "Everyone was pleased to see us. We had a good response from the children. We sang a song with actions, which the children enjoyed copying."

February 2009 Cledford Nursery

The Middlewich Clean Team is keen to promote awareness of the problems associated with litter and encourage a responsible attitude towards dealing with. No one is too young to learn so MCT members have been out visiting local Nurseries to spread the word.

The toddlers learned about using bins, taking litter home and how other people end up having to pick up litter thoughtlessly left by others. This was done in a fun way which involved the children playing at picking up litter with litter pickers.

Doing the rounds of the nurseries has become an annual event for MCT. The cheerful involvement of the staff and the children's enjoyment at learning something different helps make spreading the "Keep Your Town Tidy" message a pleasurable one. Here is Hilary and the staff from Cledford Nursery.

The Playbox playgroup at the Community Centre kindly hosted a visit. Carol & Hilary explained who they were and spoke to the children about the importance of using bins and taking responsibility for their own litter. Each child had a turn with a litter picker putting rubbish into a bin. Then the staff came up with a surprise new song sung to the tune of Frere Jacques...................
